If life has been reshaped by chronic illness or caregiving

this space was made with you in mind.

The confusion. The grief. The what now?

The endless search for answers. The pressure to hold it all together. The exhaustion of having to fight to be heard, or to keep showing up when you’re already running on empty.

The “your labs look fine.” The “but you don’t look sick.”

The “but you’re doing such a great job.” The “you’re so strong”

The questioning of yourself. The who am I now?—or the feeling that you’ve lost yourself in taking care of everyone else.

The guilt. The resentment. The role you didn’t ask for—or the life you didn’t choose.

I get it. And you don’t have to go through it alone.

What I believe

I believe that your experience is real and you deserve to be met with understanding, not skepticism.

I believe the symptoms you feel, the exhaustion you carry, and the impact this has had on your life.

I believe caregiving can be both meaningful and overwhelming—and that you’re allowed to have complicated feelings about it.

How I support you

Therapy with me is a space where we work together as a team to focus on what you need.

You don’t have to have the “right words” or explain everything perfectly for me to understand. We’ll slow down and make sense of what you’ve been carrying—whether that’s processing the emotional weight of chronic illness, navigating caregiving challenges, creating a life that feels more manageable and aligned with where you are now, or reconnecting with who you are underneath it all. Therapy doesn’t have to be stuffy, we can laugh together as we navigate the tough stuff.

Why this work matters

I’ve seen how often people living with chronic illness and caregivers feel dismissed, overlooked, or left to figure it out on their own. Too often, people feel like they have to hold it all together while their own needs go unnoticed.

You deserve more than that. You deserve a space where you are fully seen and supported without having to minimize your experience or question yourself.

Therapy for Chronic Illness, Caregiving & Emotional Well-Being

Living with Chronic Illness

Living with chronic illness can feel isolating, unpredictable, and often invisible to others. You may be navigating symptoms that others don’t fully understand, medical stress, or grief for the life you thought you’d have. Whether you’re seeking a diagnosis, newly diagnosed or have been living with this for years, you deserve support that sees the full picture of your life—not just your symptoms.

You may have been brushed off, not believed, or told things “aren’t that bad.” Over time, that can make you question yourself, downplay your experience, or feel disconnected from your own reality. Therapy can be a place to rebuild trust in yourself and feel deeply seen and understood.

Caregiver Stress, Burnout, & Losing Yourself in the Role

Caring for someone you love isn’t always simple. You may feel overwhelmed, lonely, resentful, guilty, or conflicted—especially if your relationship is complicated or this isn’t a role you ever wanted. You may feel like you need to stay strong, put your needs aside, or hold everything together, even when you’re running on empty.

This is a place just for you – where all of those feelings are welcome without judgment.

Identity, Self-Esteem & Life Beyond Illness or Caregiving

When so much of your life revolves around illness or caring for someone else, it’s easy to lose sight of who you are. You may feel disconnected from yourself, unsure of what you need, or questioning what you want moving forward. This is a space to reconnect with yourself—your identity, your needs, and your True You.

Meet Ellen Thomas

Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, LPC

I understand the complexity of chronic illness—because I live it, and I love someone who lives it.

I bring both professional expertise and lived experience into the room. I understand the layers—the grief, the uncertainty, the frustration of being dismissed, the who am I now?

It was important to me to create a space where you don’t have to justify or explain your pain. A space where you are taken seriously, and where your full experience is seen and understood.

This work is close to my heart, and if you’re ready to explore it, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy watching Atlanta Braves baseball, dreaming about whales, reading, working on a puzzle, and spending time with my husband and our four cats.

If you’re curious about working together, I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can talk about your needs and see if we’re a good fit. Reach out when you’re ready — I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
